The New York Times Bestselling Author Of Year One And Of Blood And Bone Concludes Her Stunning Trilogy That The New York Times Book Review Praised As A Match For End Of The World Classics Like Stephen King S The Stand After The Sickness Known As The Doom Destroyed Civilization, Magick Has Become Commonplace, And Fallon Swift Has Spent Her Young Years Learning Its Ways Fallon Cannot Live In Peace Until She Frees Those Who Have Been Preyed Upon By The Government Or The Fanatical Purity Warriors, Endlessly Hunted Or Locked Up In Laboratories, Brutalized For Years On End She Is Determined To Save Even Those Who Have Been Complicit With This Evil Out Of Fear Or Weakness If, Indeed, They Can Be SavedStrengthened By The Bond She Shares With Her Fellow Warrior, Duncan, Fallon Has Already Succeeded In Rescuing Countless Shifters And Elves And Ordinary Humans Now She Must Help Them Heal And Rediscover The Light And Faith Within Themselves For Although From The Time Of Her Birth, She Has Been The One, She Is Still Only One And As She Faces Down An Old Nemesis, Sets Her Sights On The Enemy S Stronghold, And Pursues Her Destiny To Finally Restore The Mystical Shield That Once Protected Them All She Will Need An Army Behind Her 5 Well Deserved Stars Thank you Edelweiss for an ARCI can not wait to put this conclusion in the hands of my library patrons because it was so beautifully wrapped up I couldn t have asked for a better ending I ve said it before, raises hand not the biggest Nora Roberts fan here I admit this freely however, if I can specify a series to be the HUGEST Nora Roberts fan for it d be this one She ties up loose ends, ravels and spins a web with each and every character and yet it somehow flows perfectly.Fallon, Tonia, Duncan and their growth as characters is the bomb.com But that isn t even the best part of this bookthe best part is how every.single.character has a purpose There was no fluff written in just to be page fillers Mallick, Simon, Fred, Arlys, Mick, Lana the list goes on and on because every person plays a role Action, adventure, romance, intense anticipation, impending doom, hope, darkness, you name it, this book has it all and then some I m impressed Ms Roberts.thoroughly impressed. Book received from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review. The series comes to a powerful end as Fallon and New Hope come together fight the evil that caused the Doom Really, there is no explanation needed when it comes to Nora Roberts The final book brings the series to a mind blowing close With lives lost, lives to avenge, and a dark evil to destroy I loved this series so much It s different from her normal writing in that the series doesn t surround the romance of certain people but builds through families Love it I was surprised to find that I enjoyed this last book in this trilogy way than the first two see links to my reviews of the first two books below It was a reasonably good way to end this trilogy but not an original way to end it However, if you have already read the first two books, then this is a must read for you I had some problems with the repetitiveness that Nora seems to embrace lately She does like to repeat over and over, what we not only have learned from the first two books, but she did this with passages from this particular book too Unlike other reviewers, I feel that Ms Roberts was merely filling up pages to get to a specific word count I did not like the fact that these books use a language like what she uses in her J.D.Robb series which I call text speak She tends to lose the flow of her sentences when doing this, and it makes it a bit awkward for a reader who is not used to this way of speaking Ms Roberts leaves out things like determiners and grammatical articles and even some crucial verbs I still do think that this series is geared for the YA Teen audience than a purely adult one. There are new character s to enjoy, fights galore, and deaths of some secondary character s that we ve come to know I do wonder why Fallon is not using all of this fantastic magic she absorbed when opening The Book of Spells and then jumped into The Pit.The last fight is interesting not exciting as such, but interesting but a little lackluster for a trilogy like thisI loved Vivienne especially and a lot of the secondary and tertiary character s This idea would have made an excellent long running series which would have given the characters time to grow and mature into their roles I did have a bit of a difficult time with the large jumps in time Fallon is an infant poof Fallon is 13 poof Fallon is 20 I think An extended series would have given us time to see what all the fights were like, to understand about Vivienne and the other alliances, to feel about the romance, etc ARC supplied by the publisher. If you love fantasy, and you ve enjoyed the books so far Then this one is for you There was so much that I ve learned in this book NR reinvented this world ans fine tuned the details that we knew of these characters. It was like getting the series ending finale that we all deserved. So, so good I got this book free from a Goodreads giveaway Thank you, thank you, thank you No spoilersI have never read anything from Robert s before this series but I must say, I am definitely impressed.I ll no doubt be checking out some of her other work in the future if any are as elaborate and alluring as this The Rise of Magicks is a beautiful, riveting, and powerful conclusion to a fantastic series A fast paced, emotional roller coaster of a story with an ending that would make almost anyone smile The pacing was quite steady generally and had me constantly saying to myself just one page I even found myself genuinely attached to numerous characters, even at times wishing they were real and a part of my life due to how real Roberts made them seem It really was a blast to read The only complaint I have as minute as it may be, is that the actual battles went by so quickly. So many pages leading up to a clash between factions only for the battle to be over before I really got into it It kept things fast paced and easy to read yes, but I personally would have been pleased to spend a little time in the action when the magic started flying the the swords started clashing Overall, this book as well as the first 2 in this epic trilogy recieve a 4.5 from me I m so glad I read it, and so sad now that s it s over Anyone who has read the first 2 should absolutely get this when it comes out and if you haven t read them yet, get on that Thank you Nora Robert s for sharing this amazing story with us. I won an ARC of this book from St Martin s Publishing It was a great conclusion to the trilogy and I thoroughly enjoyed it The only issue I have is the time between the release of each book It had been 7 months since I read book two and I was really wishing I d done a reread of the first two since it took me some time to remember all the characters and how they fit in From now on, I m not starting a trilogy until the last book is released If you ve read the first two books in this series, you will love this one. Thanks to St Martin s Press and Goodreads giveaways for this ARE copy.I had read the first two books in the Chronicles of the One series and really enjoyed them The magick and science blend was well done The pacing was perfect So I was really looking forward to this third and final book. And it did not disappoint We continue learning about the characters one of my favorite things about this series Roberts takes a back to the first book and the changes that have happened to help us understand how New Hope became what is Then there are the battles they had me on the ege of my seat, right up to the last battle I especially liked the connections with the people before and after which made the results of the battle impactful. And that last battle is why I didn t give the book 5 stars I was looking forward to that last, epic battle with Petra especially because all the other battles were so involved And the other two books made Petra to be this powerful, evil woman but the last battle made me just feel sorry for her because she seemed a plaything for the Source Who also didn t seem like such a big deal I came away from that battle wondering if that was it On the flip side of that I also felt like I already need another story because there is still so much of this world and the characters I want to know about. Magic is on a come back If you haven t read the previous books in this series, don t worry about it The story was easy to follow and everything from past books was explained well I really enjoyed the magic and how it worked It s a good sign when you can understand the magic in a book instead of just having magic that can do anything and there is no rhym or reason to it The characters were great as well They live in a dystopian world where they are fighting for equality and safety I really felt their battle and conviction in doing what was right, even if it meant they would give their lives for their cause This was a fantastic story that really kept me on edge the whole time Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.Check out Book Confessions of an Ex Ballerina for Books, Movies, Recipes and BLOG FACEBOOK TWITTER INSTAGRAM GOODREADS BLOGLOVIN I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for a review It was a beyond fitting end for such an interesting trilogy I really hope this gets optioned to be a tv show Oo hi CW Netflix Hulu or a movie. This book was full of Roberts signatures, without being to overly done and trope Yes Fallon and Declan get together, have sex, fall in love In this book, there weren t a lot of sex scenes, nor were they in any particular depth of detail, which I personally appreciated and yet missed Yes, they beat Petra in the nick of time and save humanity Although, for all her books about prevailing against evil, Roberts never explains what happens next I d really like to know if the world recovers There was only one major character loss in this novel which in ways felt like the next episode of a series I will say, it was an action packed book and regrettably that left some holes and underdevelopment I personally read the second book after it came out, which meant I couldn t really remember all the characters outside the major ones, I definitely would ve appreciated a key I also felt Petra and the villain were very underdeveloped and she barely makes then 2 appearances, yet she was the major villain Same goes with the black dragon, that whole character greatly confused me, is it an animal, is it There does come a point where villain cause I said so isn t enough There was also this general disorder to the actual villains, which relied on the prior books to supply the general reasoning bad acts etc This book showed 3 different Sameish villain groups, all of which Fallon and co succeeded over in various different detail, which again contributed to the missed underdeveloped areas The end battle felt rushed in comparison to the strong story development and start of the book, it felt like it should ve been then 3 tightly condensed books Nonetheless, I really enjoyed this story line and series and do hope it becomes a tv show as it was such an interesting concept. Thank you to St Martin s Press and a Goodreads Giveaway for an ARC of this wonderful book.I was very much looking forward to reading the final book in a trilogy that I think is a bit of a departure from the usual Nora Roberts novels. It was wrapped up nicely but a little too easily There are several sequences in this book that, in the hands of a different author, would have been huuuuge action scenes There would have been giant battles with all different kinds of Dark Uncannys, Raiders, and Purity Warriors Instead, we get a few pages and she tells us who won and who died I get it, action is not really what you re looking for in a Nora Roberts book But I did wish we could have seen of what was happening Also, maybe some merpeople. There are a lot of characters, so beyond Fallon you re not getting a ton of character development Everyone kind of just stays where they are It sounds like I didn t like this book very much but I actually liked it a lot If you enjoyed the first two books, I m sure you ll like this one There just weren t any hard choices or shocking conclusions here.
